Your account and first trip
Choose Create account and enter your name, email address and password. Open the confirmation email, confirm your address, then return to ExpenseTravel and sign in.
Create a trip with a name, dates, budget and home currency. Select the currencies you expect to use while travelling. Your home currency is the currency used to display your combined spending total.
I have not received my confirmation email
Check your spam or junk folder and the email address you entered. If you cannot find the message, keep a note of the address you used and the approximate sign-up time for when support is available.
I cannot sign in
Check your email address, password and internet connection. Make sure you have confirmed your email address. Do not create another account to try to recover trips from the first one.
Never send your password, full card number or banking credentials in a support message.
Share a trip with your travelmates
Save your trip, open Edit trip and choose Share trip. Create an invite link, copy it and send it to your group. Each person opens the link, signs in with their own account and chooses Join this trip.
Members can add, edit and delete any expense in that trip and change its budget, dates and currencies. The owner manages invitations and members. Each person’s other trips stay separate.
Links expire after seven days and can be used by several people. Anyone with the link and an account can join as an editor, so share it only with your intended group. Stopping or replacing a link does not remove existing members.
Record each purchase once. “Added by” identifies the entry’s creator, not its payer. The app does not calculate individual debts or split bills.
Use a connection and allow about ten seconds for updates while the app is visible outside an editor. If a save conflicts with a newer edit, check the latest entry, then close and reopen the editor before saving again.
Read the full shared-trip guide for access controls and examples, or lee la guía en español.
Record and edit expenses
Open the correct trip and choose Add Expense. Enter the amount, choose its currency, category and payment method, and add a short description if it helps you remember the purchase.
To change an expense, open its existing entry. Check the amount, date, currency, category, payment method and description before saving.
Should I enter ATM withdrawals?
If you record cash purchases, do not also enter the withdrawal principal as an expense. Record a separate ATM fee once. Our guide explains how to track withdrawals and cash purchases without double-counting.
Can I change categories and payment methods?
Open Settings to manage your categories and payment methods. Use labels that make sense for your trips and keep them consistent when reviewing spending.
Budgets and exchange rates
Choose a whole-trip budget or a daily budget. Decide whether it covers all trip costs or only spending while you are away, then record expenses consistently with that choice. Our guides explain prepaid bookings and daily budgets and recalculating your allowance after overspending.
ExpenseTravel converts foreign-currency entries using your trip’s saved exchange rates. You can refresh or adjust those rates. Your bank may use another rate or charge fees, so the converted total can differ from your bank statement. Our guide explains saved exchange rates and bank-statement differences.
My spending total looks wrong
Check the original amount, currency and trip for each entry. Then check your home currency and exchange rates. Look for duplicated purchases, cash withdrawals entered alongside cash purchases, or prepaid costs counted twice.
Where can I review spending?
Open Insights to review spending by category and day. Select a category to see the expenses behind its total.
Add ExpenseTravel to your iPhone
Open expensetravel.com in Safari, choose Share, then Add to Home Screen. Confirm the name and add the shortcut. The exact menu can vary by iOS version.
ExpenseTravel currently runs as a web app. You need a connection for account access, cloud syncing and refreshing exchange rates. Check that changes have synced before relying on them on another device.
Sync and export your data
Use the same account on your devices to access synced trips and expenses. If a recent change is missing, check your connection and sign-in state before entering it again.
Open Settings, then Data & backup, to export expenses as CSV or download a JSON copy of your data. Keep exported files private because they can include trip details and spending notes.
The current early-access version provides CSV and JSON downloads, but its JSON restore control is not available yet. Keep your existing data and exported copies safe.
If you suspect a change has not synced, avoid clearing browser storage until you have exported the information available on that device. Local browser storage may contain app data as well as your sign-in state.
Privacy and account requests
Read the early-access privacy notice for information about account details, trip records and service providers. Deleting a trip or expense is different from deleting your whole account.
Operator and contact details are being finalised. A published contact method for access, correction and account-deletion requests will be added here when it is confirmed.
Support contact
ExpenseTravel is in early access while we finalise the support channel. There is no published support email address yet.
When reporting an issue, include what you tried, what happened, your device and browser, and the approximate time. If you include a screenshot, hide private information first.
This page will be updated when the support address and account-request process are ready.
